In times of 'likes', 'followers' and selfies it is very easy to look for happyness outside your own self. And it is even easier to listen to the monkey mind...
If we are truely connected to our inner wisdom and self, neither the volatile and moody monkey mind, nor the outside world will influence us. So far, so wise.
Do you know the feeling, when all is great, you look fantastic, the sun is shining, you love your life...and then you cross the street with a smile on your face when this rude IDIOT almost kills you with his muscle car and doesn't say sorry. You inhale deeply, focus on the beauty of the day, walk into the bakery to get THE CAKE you ordered two weeks ago, when the shopkeeper tells you, that there has been a mistake, blablabla, and instead of a chocolate cake it is a lemon cake( and you HATE lemon cake).
And so on.
By the end of the day, your smile is gone, you look hideous and you DO NOT LIKE YOUR LIFE AT ALL!
“Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside.”( Ramana Maharshi)
On days like these it is important to have tools which reconnect you with your inner self.
Practicing Asana or Pranayama, going for a walk in nature, sitting peacfully listening to music or meditate...Those are powerful tools.
The most efficient tool I once got from my dear friend an teacher Jeff Fisher is this beautiful and simple meditation. Feel free to try it out!
Sit down comfortably. Take a few deep rounds of breath. Think of something/someone that makes you smile. For instance this cute puppy you used to love so dearly when you were a kid or the smell of freshly cut grass... What ever works best for you.
Then embody this wunderful feeling of joy. Inhale it into your body, feel your heart expanding, and then shine out untill you fill the world with your bliss, splendor and happiness.
Now, anytime you realise that you are not centered anymore tell yourself: remember the smile.
Have a sparkling day!
